My computer is a real dinosaur; but, before I replace it there are a few pictures on it I'd like to finish, this is one of them. Originally intended for my art swap with I decided it was going to take a while to do -I've never attempted the kind of lighting or general ambiance like I had intended before- and Sarah is crazeh fast so I didn't want to look like I'd never complete my end of the trade. So this got thrown in the back burner and I whipped up Isham's face 'cause I like to draw faces >_< Still, I liked the dynamic going on between the characters in this pic so I kicked it around for a while. Magpie's are common around my neighbourhood; they're vicious and opportunistic but they're very nice to look at - I hope that doesn't reflect badly on Ibis, I do have a sneaking suspicion there is a nasty side to him though. X) On another side note, many Jelly Straws were devoured during the creation of this pic.
Beautiful coloration and lighting, it reminds me of the softness you get from traditional media, especially on the character's (Ibis'?) face. The feathers and hair, and the attention to his face and lips are striking.
Also, the communication between the two figures is lovely, you can really see a connection. I see it almost like he's playfully dedicating his song to the magpie-- very sweet.
Anyhow, that's my interpretation, but I love how there's storytelling in this. Fantastic work!
What a fascinating style! And the coloring on his face is so cool-looking and so well-done--almost metallic. That bird is also stunning to look at. The overall ambience in the photo expresses well, the moment it popped unto the page it had sound/music already resonating behind it! Well doooone! (fav-slave! ha!)
